1st Bundoora

Assistant Scout Leader and Scout Leader

1967–1969

Michael Downes joined 1st Bundoora as an Assistant Scout Leader in December 1967. He became Scout Leader in August 1968 and served until March 1969.

His later appointments included Diamond Valley District Scout Leader, training roles in Diamond Valley and the Yarra Batman Area, and service on the Branch Scout Council. He also served on the WASP Committee and the National Publications Advisory Committee.

Downes wrote and spoke about practical Scout leadership. His articles call for active Patrols, adventurous programs and adults who give young people room to lead. His service brought him a Long Service Decoration and Medal of Merit.
