Bundoora Scouts has been empowering young people in Melbourne's north since the 1960s. Learn about our history, our leaders, and what makes us tick.

Our Story

Bundoora Scout Group has been part of the local community for over 50 years. We’re a volunteer-run group operating under Scouts Victoria, proudly located in Melbourne’s northern suburbs. Our group is part of the Banyule District, in the Plenty Valley Region within the Victorian Branch of the Scout Association of Australia.

From the earliest campfires in the 1960s to today’s multi-day expeditions and community projects, we’ve been committed to one thing: helping young people grow.

Our History

More than six decades of adventure, service and community - one milestone at a time.

  1. Bundoora Group begins

    Bundoora Scout Group was established in 1960, beginning more than six decades of local Scouting for young people and families in Melbourne's north.

  2. Bundoora joins Diamond Valley District

    Following changes to council boundaries in 1964, Bundoora Scout Group moved from Heidelberg District into the new Diamond Valley District.

  3. A new Banyule District

    Local government changes brought Bundoora, Watsonia and Greensborough back together in the new City of Banyule. The local Scouting district followed and adopted the Banyule name still used today.

  4. Chris Parr joins as Group Leader

    Chris Parr joined Bundoora Scouts as Group Leader and guided the Group through a period of rebuilding and growth.

  5. Kate joins the Cub Pack

    Bundoora Scouts welcomed Kate as Cub Scout Leader, beginning years of service to the Cub Pack and wider Group.

  6. Solar plans for the hall

    Banyule City Council awarded Bundoora Scouts a Sustainability Grant for a planned 6.1 kW solar system at the Scout hall.

  7. A new front fence

    Bundoora Scouts replaced the hall's chain-link front fence with a powder-coated black fence, improving the entrance and security of the grounds.

  8. A new website goes live

    Bundoora Scouts launched a new website to give families and the local community easier access to section information and Group news.

  9. Scouting continues through COVID-19

    COVID-19 restrictions disrupted regular meetings, but Bundoora Scouts kept young people connected through remote activities and online Scouting.

  10. A Queen's Scout after 28 years

    Taneesha Pattison became Bundoora's first Queen's Scout since 1992, completing the award's demanding requirements during a year disrupted by COVID-19.

  11. Scouting recognised in civic life

    Banyule councillor Rick Garotti thanked Bundoora Scout Group after being formally scarfed, recognising the contribution Scout groups make across the local community.

  12. An 11 kWh battery for the hall

    NAB awarded Bundoora Scouts a grant to install an 11 kW battery at the Scout Hall, expanding the Group's investment in sustainable energy infrastructure.

  13. A Silver Kangaroo for Joan

    Assistant Group Leader Joan received Scouts Australia's Silver Kangaroo Service Award for eminent achievement and exceptional service to Scouting over many years.

  14. Rovers return to Bundoora

    Bundoora Scouts welcomed the Handfield Rover Crew into the Scout Centre's Rover Den, bringing a Rover section back to the Group.

  15. $100,000 for the Scout Centre

    A $100,000 grant from the Andrews Labor Government made it possible to replace the hall's rotten windows and build a new Quartermaster Store shed.

  16. A garden shaped by Cub Scouts

    Cub Scouts led a biodiversity garden project inspired by nearby Gresswell Forest, planting around 100 indigenous plants and creating a place to learn about living respectfully with nature.

  17. Kangaroo Island expedition

    Scouts and Venturer Scouts returned from a shared Kangaroo Island expedition filled with hiking, wildlife encounters and service, including handmade pouches donated to a wildlife rescue group.

  18. Renewing our hall grounds

    Banyule Council recorded completion of a fence replacement project for Bundoora Scout Group, helping maintain the hall and grounds for future generations.

  19. The Darwin Campfire Circle

    With support from Eden Building & Landscaping and Watsonia RSL, a new outdoor campfire circle took shape at the Scout Centre as a gathering place for future stories and songs.

  20. New windows for the Scout Hall

    Bundoora Scouts used funding from the Victorian Government grant to replace the hall's rotten windows, improving safety, insulation and energy efficiency.

  21. A new store and activity shed

    The Group completed a new shed with a dedicated Quartermaster Store and activity space, giving equipment a secure home and youth members more room for hands-on programs.

    Bundoora Scouts farewelled Group Leader Chris Parr and thanked him for more than seven years of leadership and service to the Group.

  23. Siobhan joins the Cub leadership team

    Bundoora Scouts invested Siobhan 'Kaa' into the Cub Scout leadership team, where she helps Cubs build skills and explore the outdoors.

    Bundoora Scouts invested Glenn 'Varmint' into the Scout Troop leadership team. He joined Hamish in supporting the Troop's youth-led program.

    Bundoora Scouts welcomed former Handfield Rover Lisa 'Fox' into the Cub Scout leadership team.

  26. Bruce becomes Group Leader

    Bundoora Scouts welcomed Bruce as Group Leader to lead the Group and support its volunteers and families.

  27. Ainsley joins the Scout leadership team

    Bundoora Scouts welcomed Ainsley to the Scout leadership team to help guide the Troop's youth-led program.

    Bundoora Scouts refreshed its website with a new visual design and easier access to section information and Campfire stories.

  29. The trail leads to Uluru

    Scouts and Venturer Scouts set out on a major expedition through Central Australia, sharing their route, stories and photographs with the wider community.

What We Stand For

We believe that Scouting is one of the most powerful youth development programs in the world. Our program is:

Our Leaders

Bundoora Scouts is powered entirely by dedicated volunteers – parents, young adults, and community members who give their time to create extraordinary experiences for youth.

All our leaders are Working with Children Check verified, first-aid trained, and receive ongoing Scouts Victoria training.

Our Hall

We meet regularly at our hall in Bundoora. The hall is also available for hire to community groups and for private functions.
