Final check-ins before the convoy heads north
Today is muster day for our Uluru expeditioners, and Bundoora Scout Hall is full of bags, checklists, maps, nerves, and grins. People are being checked in, gear is being sorted, and the three chariots, also known as our buses, are ready to roll before tomorrow’s big push north.
There is a real mix of excitement and caution in the air. Everyone knows this is going to be a huge adventure, but the road ahead is long and the outback does not hand out easy badges. I even did my best modelling for the Uluru trip merch, which is not something I usually volunteer for. Usually.
Tonight will be an early one, at least in theory. If anyone can actually sleep, they will be up at 4.30am for a 6.00am push off. That is not just an early start, it is a full-on dawn patrol, with the compass pointing towards Broken Hill first and Uluru further down the track.
To all our expeditioners, leaders, helpers, families, and friends: thank you for the work that has brought us to this point. The trail has been planned, the patrol spirit is packed, and the adventure is almost ready to roll. Uluru, we are knot far away now.
